INTRODUCTION
The time of this collection’s original transfer to the archives, as well as the source / donor of the collection is unknown. These photographs were found in the archives’ backlog of unprocessed materials with no accompanying accession record or other clues as to their origin. Likewise, information regarding the identity of the photographer is unknown for the great majority of the items. Many of the individuals in photographs are clearly identified while many others are not. This collection, totaling 3.5 cubic feet, was processed, organized and described during the Fall 2009 semester. These records are open for research. The suggested citation to the collection is: “Clarion University Photograph Collection-1, Clarion University Archives, Carlson Library, Clarion University of Pennsylvania.”
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
Many of the photographs in this collection were already encapsulated in protective plastic sleeves. Those that were not have been transferred to protective photograph envelopes. Any pertinent information that is written on the back of the photograph (such as a date, location, personal name(s), etc.) has been transcribed onto the photograph envelope. Most of the images in this collection are actual black and white photographic prints, but some images are from other sources, such as postcards or clippings from the yearbook (the Sequelle.) These images vary in date, from circa the late 1800’s to the 1960’s, with the bulk of the collection seemingly from the late 50’s through the 1960’s. There is one photograph from 1973 Exact dates are not available for the majority of the photographs in this collection. These photographs have been organized into several sub-series.
