This information about Rena Carlson is provided in the dedication program:
Rena Carlson:
"Rena M. Carlson, Librarian Emeritus of Clarion State College, retired in August 1963, after 34 years of progressive service to the College and Community. A native Pennsylvanian, Miss Carlson was graduated from Sheffield High School, and from Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois with an A.B. degree. Her library education was gained at Carnegie Library School of Carnegie Institute of Technology (now the University of Pittsburgh Graduate Library School) where she received the A.M.L.S. degree. Before beginning her enriching career at Clarion, Miss Carlson taught high school classes for three years, was librarian in Reading High Schools for three years, and at Wagner Junior High School in Philadelphia for a year. She came to Clarion in 1929. Miss Carlson established the library in the College's laboratory School in 1931. In addition, she was responsible for much of the new library at Clarion's branch campus - Venango Campus of Oil City. And, it was her drive and thinking that you see in this modern, fine library. In addition to planning these newer facilities, Miss Carlson was also steadily expanding the library's collection and offerings of service. Retired "only from her library work," Miss Carlson continued to lead an active life in the community. She completed a world tour last year and plans more travels in the future. She is also active in amateur photography and in community and church projects."
Note: The archives has two copies of the dedication program. On one copy, the phrase from above, "where she received the A.M.L.S. degree," was redacted and replaced with this text: and at the University of Michigan Library School where she received the A.M.L.S. degree.
