This publication provides the daily schedule for a week long "Teachers' Institute" program that was held Monday, December 25 - Friday, December 29. The year of the program is printed nowhere in the directory. However, the year 1893 was penciled in by an unknown individual. The publication does not indicate the location in which the institute was held. Advertisements for many local businesses are included. The program contains several useful tables: the "Clarion County Schools" statistical table lists the school districts in the county along with several statistics about each district, including taxes levied, state appropriation, number of schools, and wages. Another section is a directory of teachers and school directors in the county. The final section of the program is "A Course of Study for the Elementary Schools of Clarion County."
The introductory paragraph reads as follows:
In 1881 Superintendent A. J. Davis submitted to the teachers of Clarion county a "course of study for the elementary schools of Clarion county." This course was put into use and the graduating system established in our schools. When Superintendent C.F. McNutt went into office he took up the work where Prof. Davis had left off and diligently carried it forward from 1885 to 1893.
