Dr. G. Neiman, Clarion, Dies
Clarion - Dr. Gilbert Howard Neiman, 64, of Applewood Valley Drive, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was professor emeritus at Clarion State College where he taught English. A well-known poet, he had several poems and articles published in leading periodicals.
Born November 24, 1912 at Whitewater, Kan., he was the son of George and Edna Bishop Neiman. His father is deceased. He was married May 30, 1950 to the former Carol Jones, who survives.
Dr. Neiman received his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in 1937, where he graduated magna cum laude. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he received his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico in 1958. He was named a special fellow at the university during that time.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Arian Neiman; his mother, Mrs. Edna Bishop Robinson of Denver, Colo. and two aunts, Helen Neiman and Jessie Bishop, both of Whitewater, Kan.
The Gerald L. Goble Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. Visitation hours and services will be announced in Friday's Derrick. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Clarion State College scholarship fund.
