The purpose of CU Serve is to connect and engage students at Clarion University - Venango through fellowship and service. Members are devoted to the principle of volunteer service and service learning experiences that provide opportunities for students to grow in their understanding of the world.
Annually, CU Serve participates in a variety of activities and events at Venango Campus and beyond.
At the start of the fall, CU Serve greets new students at the Discovery Weekend Resource Fair with interactive booths (themes have included Mardi Gras, Root Beer Pong, Ice Bucket Challenge, Where Will You Go Map Pins, and more).
They host a Fall Fest in October featuring pumpkin painting and smashing, and fall food favorites, like soups and pies, as well as games and entertainment.
CU Serve selects unique service projects throughout the year with organizations such as Mustard Seed Missions of Venango County (labor projects including the renovation of homeless shelters), handicap ramp building and painting, cleaning and organizing, fundraisers, races, and much more. Each year, students contribute to the selection of projects based on their interests.
Each spring break, CU Serve completes a large service project. Most recently, the group traveled to New Orleans, LA, where they volunteered at Camp Restore, St. Margaret's at Mercy nursing home baking 200 pieces of cookies and bread for a Saint Joseph's altar, the Love in Action Outreach, a food pantry in NOLA serving close to 100 local residents, Arc of Greater NOLA, sorting over 20,000 lbs. of Mardi Gras beads and novelty items for recycling, Metro Centers for Community Advocacy at a shelter for victims of violence, and Giving Hope for New Orleans food pantry.
Lastly, at the end of each academic year, CU Serve teams up with Career Services to offer Next Step Career Night and the famous Etiquette Dinner for students getting ready for their job search.
