This letter is signed simply as "J.L.," but is believed to be authored by James Laughlin based on previous correspondence between Laughlin and Neiman, and based on the fact that the letter is on letterhead from New Directions, Norfolk Connecticut (as was previous correspondence between Laughlin and Neiman.)
